Towards a new quality of treatment for Parkinson’s
The past decades have brought an unparalleled increase in the speed of technological advances. Basic technology for products which are now at the centre of our lives often did not exist 10 or 20 years ago, yet we think we cannot live without them!
Whenever possibilities for deceleration of Parkinson’s are discussed, the topic Exercise is also addressed. It is undisputedly regarded as the most important single measure that can help the patient cope with the symptoms.
In order to fully appreciate the positive effects of exercising it is helpful to understand the effects of exercising, especially with regards to the symptoms. We will address general topics like

Our second event 2019 will again be done jointly together with the University of Dundee.
It evolved from a workshop with members of DRIG as part of a separate Dundee project between artist Daksha Patel and the MRC PPU Lab of the University of Dundee. It is linked to an exhibition by Daksha Patel at the DCA featuring work connected to Parkinson’s research at the MRC-PPU.
In order to develop a cure for Parkinson’s disease or at least to slow down or stop its progression, it is necessary to know the mechanisms leading to Parkinson’s disease. Over the last few years, the MRC PPU Laboratory at the University of Dundee under the direction of Prof. Alessi has contributed significantly to the identification of such mechanisms.
The first DRIG event took place on June 26th 2018.
About 80 participants were offered a programme ranging from basic research to trial application to the patient. The scientific program was rounded off by a lecture from a very personal perspective by Parkinson patients, a time-lapse journey through the history of the Research Interest Groups and by young scientists who presented their work with great commitment and discussed it with the participants.
