The clinical team with assistance from the Neuroprogressive and Dementia Network (Link)and the Clinical Research Centre at the Ninewells Hospital site in Dundee (Link) offer a variety of clinical trial and research opportunities for people affected by Parkinson’s disease.

Biomarkers in Parkinson’s disease

Dr Esther Sammler’s academic “Biomarkers in Parkinson’s disease” project sponsored by her Scottish Senior Clinical Fellowship which involves mainly a donation of a blood sample and can ideally be combined with participation in ROPAD (below). 

 

Recruitment is ongoing and Dr Sammler is actively looking for people to participate. It is for anybody with Parkinson’s disease.

Commercial Genetic observational study: Rostock International Parkinson's Disease Study (ROPAD)

The Rostock International Parkinson's Disease Study (ROPAD) is a global observational study focusing on the role of genetics in Parkinson's disease (PD). The major goal of the study is to characterize the genetics of PD to establish a better understanding of the disease progression, diagnosis, and treatment. Throughout this study, 10,000 participants from around the world, made up of PD patients and individuals at high risk of developing PD, will be tested over a period of two years – with the overall aim of identifying 1,500 LRRK2-positive participants. 

Recruitment is ongoing and the lab is actively looking for people to participate. It is for anybody with Parkinson’s disease.

 

Commercial Phase 3 clinical trial

A 52-Week, open-label, single-arm study to evaluate the safety and tolerability of 24-hour daily exposure of continuous subcutaneous infusion of ABBV-951 in subjects with Parkinson’s disease.

Sponsor: Abbvie.
