It is with great sadness that we learned of the recent passing of Ron Page, a dedicated and much-respected member of the Fife Parkinson’s community for many years. Ron devoted himself to improving the lives of people living with Parkinson’s and their families.
Among his many achievements was the establishment of a local Parkinson’s community café in Glenrothes, which ran from 2019 until the Covid pandemic forced it to close in March 2020. The café created a welcoming space where people could share experiences, seek support, and discuss the challenges they faced. It made a meaningful difference to the lives of many people affected by Parkinson’s, and the spirit of the café continues as part of the activities of the Fife Branch.
As a member of the Dundee Research Interest Group (DRIG), Ron brought invaluable insight and lived experience that helped shape both our research and practical initiatives. His work with undergraduate medical students, particularly in developing aids to encourage physical activity for people with Parkinson’s, was especially significant.
Although he never sought recognition, Ron’s quiet commitment, wisdom and generosity have had a lasting influence on our work over the past decade.
Beyond his contributions to the Parkinson’s community, Ron also gave generously to public life. He served as Chair of the North Glenrothes Community Council and was an active member of the Children’s Panel. Following a distinguished career as a head teacher, he held leadership posts in schools in Arbroath, Buckhaven, Inverness and Waid, and also served as a Fife adviser in Social Subjects.
In 2024, Ron was named Citizen of the Year by the Glenrothes Rotary Club in recognition of his outstanding contribution to his local community over many years.
Ron will be greatly missed by members of the Fife Parkinson’s Branch and the Dundee Research Interest Group. As we continue our work to improve the lives of people with Parkinson’s in Fife and beyond, we do so inspired by Ron’s example and confident that his legacy will endure.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Wilma, their family, and Ron’s many friends at this difficult time.
