Parky Poetry | Welcome to Gillian Lacey-Solymar at the Dundee RIG's Open Doors Day

I had the honour of introducing Gillian by way of a poem.
A Welcome Break
The Dundee Research Interest Group
And the scientific teams
Welcome you to the ‘Labs Open Day’
And a look behind the scenes.
With a chance to meet researchers
To hear what they all have to say
With words like Phosphorylation, LRRK2
And Miratul’s PINK1 Pathway.
In the past we’ve used analogies
To describe what they’ve been up to
let’s face it we’re just lay-people
Who haven’t got a flipping clue.
This year the ‘Lab Open Doors Day’
Is on a different tack
With guys from Dundee’s Interest Group
Taking notes and reporting back.
The notes will form the basis
For a kind of publication
Which will be readily available
If that is any consolation.
As well as eminent Researchers
Without whom this day won’t be
We welcome Gillian Lacey-Solymar
A Parkinson’s celebrity.
She contributes in a podcast
With other people in the know
And the thing they’ve got in common?
Is Parkinson’s, just goes to show!
There’s Cellan-Jones and Mardell
Mayhew-Archer and Judge Mostyn
But most of all there’s Paxman
Who thinks Parkinson’s is disgusting.
So, you’re very welcome Gillian
To our ‘Lab Open Doors Day’
Perhaps we’ll get a mention in your podcast
When you’re back down London way.
But it’s thanks to the researchers
And the work they do for us
Without the help and hope they give us
Paxman might have dived under a bus!
